Course Overview

Most disputes about self-awareness and emotional control begin as a conversation that was handled badly. The organisation's reputation as an employer is built or lost through emotional control. Participants test their assumptions about the practice within people management and development against scenarios designed to break weak ones. They acquire practical criteria for judging when self-awareness and emotional control is working and when it is only appearing to. Buying a tool rarely fixes this part of people management and development; the underlying capability has to be built internally first. The programme works equally well for those formalising emotional control for the first time and those improving an existing approach. Post-incident reviews keep identifying weaknesses in self-awareness and emotional control that were visible long before the incident. The programme converts emotional control from an area of general awareness into a set of repeatable practices. The course ends by identifying what the participant will stop doing to make the wider people management and development agenda sustainable.
