Course Overview

Most disputes about internal HR policies begin as a conversation that was handled badly. Policy on the people management and development discipline is judged by how it is applied in the difficult cases, not the easy ones. Moving the wider people management and development agenda from written policy into daily practice is not achieved by a single decision. Participants gain a clear basis for measuring what internal HR policies has actually achieved. It establishes a shared vocabulary for the people management and development capability so that teams can disagree productively about it. Post-incident reviews keep identifying weaknesses in this area of people management and development that were visible long before the incident. Each session closes with a decision the participant must justify about internal HR policies in their own setting. It is designed for mixed groups, so that the people management and development discipline is examined from more than one functional angle. The programme closes with an action plan for the practice within people management and development that each participant writes for their own organisation.
